The In-Depth Review

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The good news is that the T-Roc offers a commendable base engine. The 1.4 TSI 110 is a four-cylinder 1.4-liter unit with 148hp, delivering ample low-end power that makes it well-suited for everyday driving. Despite its modest 0-100km/h time of 8ish seconds, it seldom feels sluggish.
However, it’s important to note that enhanced ride comfort comes at a price. The suspension setup results in more slightly more body roll in corners compared to some of its small SUV competitors but I would say its one of the best in its class. Nevertheless, this characteristic has minimal impact in urban environments, where the T-Roc shines as a nimble and effortless city cruiser.
To summarize, the T-Roc boasts robust and quiet petrol engines, a smooth manual gearshift, and an exceptionally comfortable ride.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
If you prefer an elevated driving position, the T-Roc won’t disappoint, offering a higher vantage point compared to other small SUVs. The dashboard layout is thoughtfully organized, but those touch sensitive buttons just creates distance from the drive and the machine, they are hard to get used too even though they work just fine and look amazing!
All models feature a clear digital instrument panel, replacing traditional analogue dials. Steering wheel controls allow easy navigation through various displays, including the option for a full-width map on the driver display.
However, it’s worth noting that the touch-sensitive steering-wheel controls on R-Line models are prone to accidental activation while driving, which is scary AF! Even if you opt for a lower-tier trim, you’ll still encounter touch-sensitive buttons for the infotainment and climate control, which can be somewhat finicky to operate and very distracting while driving.
Thanks to its wider dimensions, the T-Roc provides ample space inside, ensuring passengers won’t feel cramped. Rear legroom however is the same as any other compact SUV. Storage options are generous, featuring a sizable center cubby, under-armrest space, spacious door pockets, and a roomy glovebox.
Infotainment and Connectivity
All T-Roc variants come equipped with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, conveniently positioned high on the dashboard. This touchscreen is notably more responsive than previous VW systems and incorporates handy shortcut buttons on either side for user-friendly operation.
While wireless phone-charging is available, it’s worth noting that it operates very slowly.
“Volkswagen’s are easy to rely on. They are rational and still have the “I have a German car” swagger.”
