The 10 Second Review
Under the hood, the 2023 Durango GT is powered by a robust 3.6-liter V6 gas engine that delivers 295 horsepower, seamlessly paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Opting for the rear-wheel drive format grants you the advantage of a load-leveling suspension, while the all-wheel drive configuration is equipped with low-range gearing. Notable additions include a hitch receiver, a heavy-duty oil cooler, and an integrated trailer brake controller.
Externally, the GT exudes confidence with its smoothly flowing profile and distinctive accents that gracefully swell over the front and wheel fenders. The front end features a downward grille situated above a similarly shaped lower fascia, complemented by angled air intakes housing rounded fog lights. Rectangular headlights, embellished with LED bars on the top and bottom, contribute to the overall design. This trim level boasts exterior features such as heated mirrors, 20-inch wheels, black trim, and a power liftgate.
Stepping inside the seven-passenger crossover SUV, an array of features enhance the driving experience. These include remote ignition, cloth upholstery, satellite radio, USB-A and USB-C ports, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, smart device app connectivity, keyless entry, an auto-dimming rear mirror, and an 8.4-inch touch display screen. The Durango GT also offers various standard or optional features like rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic warning, blind-spot monitor, leather upholstery, second-row captain’s chairs for seating six, forward collision alert, driver’s memory settings, adaptive cruise control, a navigation system, an Alpine sound system with a subwoofer, a larger display screen, and a wireless internet hotspot, among others.

The In-Depth Review
Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The base configuration of the Dodge Durango feature the well-known naturally aspirated 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. This reliable six-cylinder generates 293 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque; however, the power output rises to 295 hp in trims equipped with the dual exhaust system. With this engine, the Dodge Durango achieves a 0-100 km/h acceleration in approximately 7 ish seconds, making it satisfactory though not particularly thrilling.
The Durango exhibits a sturdy and stable feel, devoid of any undesirable flex or vibrations while in motion. This imparts a solid impression and ensures a smooth, well-dampened ride. While it doesn’t quite match up to the leading models in terms of handling and grip, especially considering its age, it still performs admirably. The vehicle feels planted, delivering a satisfyingly traditional RWD handling experience with steady and measured responses. Notably, bump absorption is commendable, and the steering displays precision and well-balanced weight, a testament to thoughtful engineering. Dodge’s decision to prioritize comfort in the tuning of these regular Durangos appears sensible, especially since the separately reviewed supercharged variants excel in performance. For those seeking a comfortable and confidently handled SUV, the Durango continues to excel in meeting these expectations. It demonstrates resilience on challenging roads with its steadfast AWD grip.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Following a significant update, the Durango underwent a much-needed interior overhaul three years ago. This transformation replaced the previously plasticky dashboard with a higher-quality counterpart crafted from more luxurious materials, including various soft-touch surfaces. While there are still some scratchy plastics present, they are skillfully concealed, and the overall ambiance remains entirely satisfactory for the price.
Boasting a wheelbase of nearly 120 inches, the Durango ranks among the class leaders in this aspect. The distribution of interior space is relatively even across the seating rows. Although the second row falls slightly short of the class benchmarks, this compromise results in more generous third-row space compared to models like the Land Cruiser. Despite this improvement, the third-row space remains somewhat snug, a common characteristic of most mid-size SUVs with a third row, making it more suitable for accommodating children.

Infotainment and Connectivity
The GT model is equipped with the Uconnect 4C base infotainment system, featuring an 8.4-inch touchscreen. This system includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth audio streaming, four USB ports, an auxiliary input jack, and a six-speaker audio system with AM/FM radio, as well as CD/DVD/MP3 capabilities.
