The 10 Second Review
The X6M Competition with its sleek incline and formidable power, delivers a formidable punch. It strikes a balance between its high-performance capabilities and a luxurious interior cocooned in opulent materials, alongside an array of standard features. While sharing many similarities with its more traditional counterpart, the X5 M SUV, the X6 M distinguishes itself with its sportier roofline, albeit sacrificing a bit of cargo space for enhanced style. Powering this beast is a hybrid system-equipped twin-turbo V-8, delivering a robust 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. Renowned for its seamless speed and assertive handling, BMW asserts that it has refined the X6 M’s ride quality, addressing previous concerns about its roughness.

The In-Depth Review
Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The new 2024 BMW X6 M now features a brand-new engine called the S68. This engine produces 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque, similar to the previous S63 engine. It remains a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8, but now includes a hybrid component in the 8-speed automatic transmission, boosting it by up to 12 horsepower and 147 pound-feet of torque. According to BMW, this setup provides quicker and more efficient power delivery compared to its predecessor. Despite these changes, the driving experience with the S68 engine doesn’t feel significantly different and still offers impressive power when needed. BMW claims the X6 M can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The X6 M combines sporty elements with luxury, featuring carbon-fiber accents and standard leather upholstery. It offers a range of high-tech features, including a curved center display that seamlessly connects the digital gauge cluster with the infotainment system’s touchscreen. Additional comforts include ambient interior lighting, optional massaging front seats with heating and ventilation, heated rear seats, heated/cooled cup holders, and more. Interior storage options include a coverable bin below the center stack and a practical center-console bin. Although its coupe-like design doesn’t compromise comfort for front- or rear-seat passengers, the sloped roofline reduces visibility and cargo space compared to the traditional X5 M, which provides 34 cubic feet of space behind the back row, while the X6 M offers only 27 cubic feet.

Infotainment and Connectivity
At the heart of the X6 M’s interior lies a distinctive curved display unit, seamlessly blending a digital driver display with a touchscreen for the infotainment system. Utilizing BMW’s newest iDrive software, it offers multiple control options, including hand gestures, voice commands, and a rotary controller mounted on the center console. Noteworthy standard features comprise Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Harman Kardon sound system. For those seeking even greater audio performance, an optional Bowers & Wilkins setup is available for an additional cost.
