The In-Depth Review
Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The Geely Coolray offers a 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Power ranges are from 174hp for the 1.5L.
Overall, the Coolray delivers a pleasant driving experience. Steering, throttle, and brakes are well-tuned for easy control, offering a standard family car feel. Acceleration feels connected and responsive from the start.
Geely equips the Coolray with three driving modes: Eco, Comfort, and Sport. These modes adjust steering feedback and power output to suit your preferences. In Eco and Comfort, the steering is light, and power delivery is smooth for a relaxed drive. Sport mode firms up the steering, though some play remains.
The 7-speed dual-clutch transmission performs well at higher speeds, shifting smoothly. However, some reviewers note a slight delay in gear changes at low speeds. Additionally, a deep press on the throttle can cause the transmission to downshift by two gears, but the slightly slow shifting can lead to a disconnect between engine and gearbox.
The Coolray’s chassis prioritizes comfort, with suspension that effectively absorbs bumps on the road. However, it can feel a bit stiff on rougher surfaces, and some reviewers mentioned it lacking confidence when driving on high-speed mountain roads.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Unlike other other vehicles in the segment, the Coolray takes a fresh approach with a clean and modern interior design that’s sure to resonate with young drivers. Eschewing overly complicated layouts, the Coolray’s interior prioritizes simplicity for a refreshing look. High-quality materials elevate the cabin’s overall feel. The center console, for example, is crafted from soft-touch materials accented with stylish brushed metal plaques. To further enhance the ambiance, Geely incorporates customizable ambient lighting that bathes the center console and door panels in your choice of red, blue, or yellow. The ability to adjust the lighting color directly from the central touchscreen adds a touch of personalization and allows you to set the mood for any drive.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The Coolray’s interior boasts a futuristic feel thanks to the centerpiece 10.25-inch floating touchscreen and a fully digital instrument panel. Standard features like a leather multi-function steering wheel, keyless entry, and push-button start add to the overall convenience.
While the instrument panel offers a wide range of functions, its operation could be improved. The user interface isn’t perfect and can be distracting while driving.
On the technology front, the infotainment system lacks wireless CarPlay, but it compensates with built-in features like online music and navigation. These functionalities provide a solid foundation for daily use with room for further customization.
