It’s finally becoming a reality! Nearly four years since its initial introduction in November 2019, the Tesla Cybertruck is now on the verge of entering full production as a finished product. A recent video from drone operator and dedicated Texas Gigafactory observer Joe Tegtmeyer has shed light on this exciting development.
Filmed yesterday morning, the half-hour video reveals that Tesla has crafted at least two “manufacturing confirmation units” of the Cybertruck, which Tegtmeyer referred to as “Master Candidates.” According to the video, these trucks were slated to be reviewed by the company’s top executives yesterday afternoon, marking the final approval step before commencing customer-intent assembly later this year.
These two brand-new electric vehicles represent the first Cybertrucks to roll out of the Texas Gigafactory after a period of closure for upgrades and improvements to the assembly line. Notably, prominent Tesla insider Greggertruck, who commented on this discovery on X (formerly Twitter), has noted improved build quality compared to previous units. These enhancements include a flush frunk, the absence of marks on the tonneau cover, and higher-quality interior plastics.
Furthermore, the vehicles feature recovery hooks and safety notice labels affixed to the sun visors. The steering wheel has also been updated and resembles a combination of the controversial yoke and the traditional round wheel.
As per Joe Tegtmeyer’s video, it appears that upcoming Series 8 Cybertrucks might be dispatched to Tesla stores for potential customers to view and test. The subsequent Series 9 vehicles are expected to represent the final variant that will be sold and delivered to reservation holders who follow through with their purchase.
In related news, Elon Musk recently hinted at the existence of a Performance version of the all-electric pickup, expressing that he has driven it and finds it to be “next-level” and impressive. While it’s unclear how this stacks up against other all-electric pickups in the market like the GMC Hummer EV or the Ford F-150 Lightning, it’s worth noting that Musk previously mentioned that the initial Cybertruck units would feature a quad-motor layout.
