Al-Futtaim Launches the Polestar 5 in the UAE From AED 439,000

Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility has opened UAE orders for the Polestar 5, the Swedish brand's flagship four-door grand tourer, with prices starting at AED 439,000. It comes in two versions, both with two motors and the same 112 kWh battery, and every car is built to order to the buyer's specification.

The 5 grew out of Polestar's Precept concept, and it keeps the concept's shape: a low nose, a long, sloping roofline and flush, frameless glass. Underneath is a bonded aluminium platform designed by Polestar for this car, with an 800V electrical system.

Two versions, both very fast

The Polestar 5 Performance is the headline car. A front motor developed by ZF works with a rear motor Polestar makes itself, for 650 kW (884 hp) and 1,015 Nm. Polestar quotes 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and a WLTP range of up to 558 km.

The Dual Motor version makes 550 kW (748 hp) and 812 Nm, which is still enough for 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. It goes further on a charge, with up to 678 km on the WLTP cycle. For most UAE owners doing Dubai to Abu Dhabi runs, that extra 120 km of range will matter more than the 0.7 seconds.

Al-Futtaim hasn't announced separate prices for the two versions, so AED 439,000 is the only figure so far. Ask which version and options it covers before you get attached to a spec.

Battery and charging

Both cars use a 112 kWh lithium-ion battery. Thanks to the 800V system, the 5 can take up to 350 kW from a DC fast charger, and Polestar says a 10 to 80 percent charge takes as little as 22 minutes. You will need one of the UAE's higher-powered chargers to see that figure.

Inside

The cabin has a 4+1 layout, meaning the middle rear seat is there for occasional use. Above it is a panoramic glass roof more than 2 metres long and 1.25 metres wide, the largest Polestar has fitted to any car. In a UAE summer, how well that roof keeps the heat out is something we will want to test.

A 14.5-inch portrait screen sits in the middle of the dashboard and runs Polestar's Android Automotive system with Google built in. The Bowers & Wilkins sound system has 21 speakers and 1,680 watts, plus active road noise cancellation. Polestar uses bio-based natural fibre composites along with recycled aluminium and textiles in the build.

The body is slippery, with a drag coefficient of 0.24, and that low drag is a big part of why a car with this much power still reaches 678 km in Dual Motor form.

Where to see it

The Polestar 5 is available to order now at Polestar Space Dubai in Dubai Festival City and Polestar Space Abu Dhabi at Mina Zayed. Al-Futtaim hasn't announced delivery dates, warranty terms or financing offers.

Lucas Bellieud, Managing Director at Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility, said: "The arrival of Polestar 5 marks an important milestone for Polestar in the UAE."
