General Motors’ subsidiary, GM Defense, recently unveiled an electric military concept vehicle known as the eMCV, which is based on the Hummer EV. This reveal took place at the Modern Day Marine expo. Drawing heavily from the Hummer EV Pickup, which has been available to the general public for a couple of years now, the eMCV is expected to share similar performance and range characteristics with its civilian counterpart.

The eMCV will be equipped with two electric motors at the rear and one at the front, delivering a combined power output of 1,000 horsepower and a substantial 11,500 lb-ft of torque. Notably, it includes an e-locking rear differential and a locking front differential. This electric military concept is projected to have a range exceeding 300 miles on a single charge, with the capability to add 100 miles of range in approximately 12 minutes using a DC fast charger. Additionally, it features a built-in 12-kilowatt diesel generator, which can charge the EV’s batteries and power other equipment.

The impressive range and charging capabilities are made possible by a GM Ultium battery pack with a 24-module, 200 kWh double-stacked configuration. This packaging flexibility allows the U.S. Army and other military branches to adapt the eMCV for various purposes, whether transporting six infantry members or their equipment to different units and forward operating bases (FOBs).

GM Defense offers two EV models: the eMCV and the All-Electric Military Concept Vehicle Variant (eISV), with the latter based on the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 platform. While the eMCV shares a platform with the Hummer EV, it utilizes a distinct propulsion system. The eISV, on the other hand, is designed to be exceptionally lightweight, in contrast to the heavy-duty nature of the Hummer EV.

Nonetheless, the eMCV retains several key features such as “Silent Watch” and “Silent Drive,” which reduce its acoustic and thermal signatures, making it stealthier. The concept vehicle also incorporates performance enhancements like Fox performance shocks, 37-inch tires, heavy-duty brakes, and improved geometry, including enhanced approach and departure angles. Unfortunately, GM Defense has not disclosed the weight of the eMCV, which may vary depending on the specific configurations. Additionally, it comes equipped with a 46-inch gun ring and swing side-arm mounts.
